Grand Seiko ‘Kira-Zuri’ Spring Drive

Winter arrives suddenly in Shinshu, the region that is home to the facility where all Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches are created. Frost forms at night on the trees and, for a brief but beautiful moment, glistens in the still powerful morning sun before melting away. The fleeting beauty of this phenomenon is captured in this dial.

The dial design of this timepiece is inspired by traditional Japanese Kira-Zuri – translated as ‘Sparkling painting,’ a pattern created with mica particles commonly found in Ukiyo-e paintings to create texture to the background of Kabuki actors, adding light – inspiring the lustre on this specific watch dial.

This model is powered by the Spring Drive movement, uniquely pioneered by Seiko Watch Corporation’s watchmakers. Spring Drive generates energy like a conventional mechanical watch with a mainspring but combines this with an electronic regulator to deliver superior precision, never requiring a battery change. Spring Drive is only available in Seiko Watch corporation timepieces. The second hand moves in perfect glide motion, with no “tick”, reflecting the natural and continuous flow of time itself.
The power reserve is 72 hours when fully wound and is shown on the discreet indicator next to the eight o’clock index.
