“My husband and I joke about being in retirement and having less time than we ever thought,” says Taylor-Young, who is active in the University of Oregon’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, or OLLI. “Of course, the joy of being active in retirement is you’re doing what you want to do on your own schedule.”
OLLI is one of several lifelong learning programs in Lane County for active seniors who want to continue being curious. Lane Community College’s Successful Aging Institute now partners with more than 40 diverse nonprofit, governmental and business organizations to meet its mission of enhancing the lives of older adults. All of the local park and recreation districts also offer classes and events just for older adults.
