Summary / Objective
The Project Engineer coordinates the overall project management of the City’s public infrastructure projects and assists in the implementation of the design and construction of private development projects. This position requires independent decision making with some review and guidance.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
•Reviews private development projects as it relates to traffic, drainage, public infrastructure, City right-of-way, and easements. Responsibilities include working with Community Development Department, Planning Commission, developers, and owners, plan and submittal review and approval, construction oversite, and final approval of public infrastructure, grading, and stormwater quality devices.
•Reviews and evaluates proposed storm drainage designs and grading plans for adequate drainage and erosion control; ensuring design and plans complies with City Standards and Codes and good engineering practices.
•Works with City consultant engineers to ensure traffic data provided to and received from external agencies is in conformance with City Standards and good engineering practice.
•Works with Construction Inspectors, developers, and contractors to ensure grading, stormwater BMPs, and public infrastructure is built to City standards and specifications. Responsibilities include providing engineering guidance, submittal reviews, regular jobsite visits, and enforcement of City codes and standards.
•May assist with in-house design projects and consultant designs for the accuracy of final plans and to ensure compliance with construction standards, city, federal, and state codes. Responsibilities could include establishing and monitoring the scope of work for each project, completing review of final plans and construction documents before seeking City Council or designated committee final approval.
•May assist with coordinating the planning, design, and construction of the City’s public infrastructure projects including streets, bridges, storm sewer, signals, lighting, and parks. Responsibilities could include administering the design scope, monitoring schedules and fees, creating and reviewing pay estimates, approving submittals, monitoring utility relocations, acquiring right-of-way and easements, assisting with engineering during construction, and coordinating close out.
