If you were looking to stick up a restaurant on Thursday night, the Battery Gardens restaurant in Lower Manhattan would have been a bad choice.
There were about 100 tough guys in suits and shoulder holsters who seemed as if they missed the whole cops-and-robbers game quite a bit.
There were homicide squad guys at one table, major cases at another, and investigations over by the entrance. And the war stories put any prime-time cop show to shame.
This was the scene at the monthly meeting of the New York Police Department’s Retired Detectives Association.
