Doubts about retirement in America are on the rise, a new public opinion poll suggests.
On average, Americans now think they’re going to retire at age 67, according to a Gallup poll conducted in mid-April.
That number has been steadily increasing since 1996, when people expected to retire at age 60. There is some good news, however — perception may be more grim than reality.
According to a 2011 analysis by the Sloan Center for Aging and Work, the average retirement age is 64 for men and 62 for women.
Those numbers have steadily increased over the past few decades.
